Students are requested to submit preceptor forms at least 8 weeks before the beginning of the semester in which they plan to take a clinical or practicum course. However, RODP staff will attempt to work with students if the deadline is not met.
Preceptor forms should be forwarded to Lori Stephens by fax at (615) 366-3953 or by email at lori.stephens@tbr.edu. Students are required to keep a copy of all forms for their records and may be requested to upload forms into their course at the beginning of each semester.
Concentration Coordinators are responsible for approving clinical sites and preceptors. For questions related to approval of sites, please contact your respective coordinator.
NA and NI Concentration Coordinator, Dr. Lynn Parsons: lparsons@mtsu.edu
NE Concentration Coordinator: Dr. Doris Davenport: davenportd@apsu.edu
FNP Concentration Coordinators:
Dr. Carol Bompart: cbompart01@tnstate.edu (MTSU, TSU, APSU students)
Dr. JoAnn Marrs: marrsj@etsu.edu (ETSU and TTU students)
*FNP students may not use an ER, acute care setting, or nursing home as a clinical site. Students will not be allowed to do hospital rounds. A preceptor must be an MD, DO, or Nurse Practitioner. A Nurse Practitioner must be used as a preceptor during at least one clinical experience. A student may not use the same clinical site more than two semesters.
Malpractice insurance should be purchased from a company, such as Magniss or NSO. Please make sure you purchase NP insurance, not RN insurance.
Name tags can be purchased at an office supply company and should include the following info: Student Name, Student Home School, FNP Student
For easy reference, please view the list of Pre-Approved Clinical Sites (pdf). These participating locations are already contractually approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents. Sites are not under any obligation to take MSN RODP students each semester for clinicals. Students are not required to use a pre-approved site. A contract will be initiated with a new site by RODP, upon receipt of preceptor forms. All sites must be approved by a concentration coordinator.
